2021.10.16 23:09 Sadnanbantan Update: 200km bike ride with little to no training prior

Good day,
I made a post a little over two weeks ago about embarking on a 200 km bike ride to go see a mate with little to no training to save myself some bus money.
Leading up to the trip I did 1hr of elliptical on the bike in the gym with a few mates every 2-3 days and altered my route accordingly to save myself the hassle of being on the highway with little light so I took some country roads. I also progressed to halt training 1 week prior to the trip and proceeded to carb load on complex carbs. My day pack consisted of 1 homemade concentrated electrolyte drink (600ml) that would be distributed to another bottle (600ml) everytime it would be used up and I had another bottle (1.5L) of water for distributing for the electrolyte and just plain sipping. My food of choice was homemade muesli with dark chocolate fragments through it.
On the day of the trip I managed to get around 5 and a half hours of sleep the night before and woke up around 3.40am and started my journey at 4.30am. It was still dark and no cars were to be seen on the route taken.
Weather Conditions:
2/5 of the trip I was blessed with no wind. But the rest of the trip the majority of it was a head wind fml. It was overall the nice day in NZ it wasn't too hot nor cold and it was cloudy with a fair bit of sun. So I'd say it was ideal conditions for me.
Trip Summary:
One of the funniest parts of the trip was probably going up Mt Cargill Road whilst still dark and just straight sending it down the hill, luckily there were no cars during this time. Going down that hill, that fast was so much fun and I do have to admit I got the speed wobbles a couple of times whilst going down. One of the biggest obstacles done. The first part of the trip was just hills. It wasn't the most pleasant and definitely tested me physically and mentally. The last 10km to the halfway mark Oamaru was the hardest for me. With no food left and my ass getting a bit sore, I took more breaks than expected. It took me hours and I did a bit of exploring. There were some niche places across the highway and I couldn't miss the opportunity to explore and this is where I lost valuable time.
I got to the halfway point around at around 2.30pm and had lunch and restocked on food and left at around 3-4pm. I knew I was behind time. I should've been at the halfway mark at 1pm but the last 10kms to the halfway got to me. Luckily for me though the last half of the trip was just flat and I made up some serious time. It was around 7-7.30pm where I pulled the plug on the trip due to safety reasons (It was getting dark) so I called my mate to pick me up and said he'll be here in 30mins. So as I did I hauled ass so I could rack up more Km's on the trip before he got to me.
My final km's I managed to get was 150km which I'm disappointed by I didn't push my body hard enough to it's peak and I know I could've finished it on the same day if I didn't waste time looking at the cool stores at those little towns. But I will be trying again next year with a mate who's a cyclist and an endurance athlete so she can push me to the limit and accomplish it within a reasonable time period.
Pain during the trip/day after the trip:
During the trip my ass was getting sore but it was manageable I just shifted where my ass was on the seat. I didnt get chaffing anywhere and I didn't wear any cream or lycra just straight up gym shorts and top so I cant say if I experienced the ring of fire.
The day after my trip legs were semi dead still managed to play a bit of soccer with my mates family, but pain on the anterior side of my leg where the shin is, ass cheeks fine though. With that Guage of being still able to walk the next day is when I knew I didn't give it my all and I'm disappointed with myself on that aspect.
Funniest and Scariest Part of the Trip:
Funniest part was going down Mt Cargill at dark it was so much fun if you're brave and dumb enough like me.
Scariest part of the trip was crossing Waitaki Bridge. This part of the trip was the one I was dreading. There was little to no shoulder but there was a 30cm wide side footpath on either side that I took and I placed my bike on the railing and I walked it across. I dont know how long that bridge was but it was far. I was genuinely scared to get blown over that bridge.
Overall Experience: 8/10 I proved some of few wrong but I couldn't prove all of you wrong. Sorry to the people who rooted for me finishing but I'll be trying again next year on the same bike.
Oh yeah, the bike held up well. No flats or broken chains throughout.
I dont know if this link works but these are the pictures I took along the way.

2021.10.16 23:09 luximo55 Covid killed our R.E. Teacher/principal

He was best teacher I knew even tho I don’t go to R.E. he treated everyone equally. This year he became a principal and was only 2 days into he job when he got diagnosed with Covid, then he had to spend rest of his life on a respirator. Yesterday morning he passed away, every student even ex ones came to light a candle (now I would’ve loved to go but my mom also has Covid… yay… so I had to be in isolation). At the end of every school year he would take us on a trip to Italy to the Gardaland theme park. Over all he was an awesome teacher and I really miss him. And also wear masks please. Here is what teacher and media said (you’ll need to translate the site):
