2021.10.16 22:03 arcadius19 Civic Hatch vs Sedan vs Mazda 3 pricing anomalies (Canada)
I was looking at prices for these vehicles and noticed some large differences. All prices are in Canadian dollars. This may not happen in the United States.
'22 Civic Touring Sedan 1.5T is $30,265
'21 Mazda 3 Sedan GT Premium Package 2.5NA FWD is $31,276
'22 Civic Sport Touring Hatch 1.5T CVT is $35,000
'21 Mazda 3 Sport GT Premium Package 2.5NA FWD 6AT is $33,326
'21 Mazda 3 Sport GT Premium Package 2.5T AWD 6AT is $36,026
Why is the Honda Civic hatch way more expensive than the sedan and closer in line to a 3 Turbo?
Is Honda going to lose customers because their 180hp hatchback is priced similar to a 250hp one with AWD?

2021.10.16 22:03 md99has So Dr. K, how can one make friends? (Especially in the context of the pandemic)
I'm sure this question gets asked a lot, but even so, here is my particular version of it:
Throughout my life I've only made real friends among classmates. This wasn't a problem, as I never felt I needed more than those friends I had. But things changed after finishing highschool: all my friends went to different cities for uni.
So, there was me, going for a physics BSc in the capital, with literally no old friend or aquaintance nearby. I also chose to go to the program with courses taught in English, which has just a few students and is quite isolated from the rest (I know, not a great idea from a social pov, but learning physics in English was kind of a must for me as an aspiring researcher). In those 3 years of BSc I only made 1 real friend (we were like the only 2 people who were actually coming to the courses, lmao).
Now, I am in my second (and last) year of my MSc degree. Now I have a lot more colleagues (well, about 7, as opposed to just 1), but I never actually got to really know them, as we've been doing everything online since the very first day (and they're also sticking to the cliques they formed in their previous groups).
For almost 2 years since the pandemic started I've felt alone and disconnected from society. And I continue being stuck. I don't really have friends (that guy from BSc grew a bit distant after he started picking up lots of girls and becoming a party animal) and I don't know how to make new friends. The pandemic is still going strong in my county (we're basically the worst in Europe right now), so the usual advice of just getting out there, finding friends through hobbies, etc, is just not possible because there are no events/clubs/etc open. The fact that I'm living outside the capital, in a miniscule town that only exists to host the Faculty of Physics and some research institutes/facilities is also not helping (even if the pandemic wasn't a problem, the distance it would take to go to the city is most of the time a mood killer).
(Maybe it would be important to mention that, due to health reasons, I can't drink alcohol, stay awake at night, party etc)
On top of this, the activities I'm doing most of the time are quite solitary: work, study physics, learn Japanese, play mobile games, watch anime and take long walks while listening to music. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy doing these, but there isn't much else I would like to add in my life. So I feel like, on top of not having how to meet new people, I am also lacking in the sense that I'm living a quite boring life and people might simply not be interested/find something in common (I also don't have a great/interesting past: I have never had a romantic relationship and I never did anything crazy or note worthy, besides just being good at studying and going to physics contests).
Do you have any advice for my situation?

2021.10.16 22:03 JamesLomond Independence currency plans
Hey ya’ll, quick question please. I recently moved to Edinburgh from the States and have been doing some reading on Scottish independence. I read that the plan is to introduce a new currency if Scotland gains independence but I can’t find much more detail on the topic that might help me for my retirement planning.
Can anybody provide more information on the currency plans? Like what the currency will be called, when it will be introduced, what it’s value will be compared to the pound and dollar etc.

2021.10.16 22:03 wa2b Just checking in: has Shadow improved? Also, could you use Shadow with 3d rendering software?
I asked about Shadow 1.5 years ago. Have things improved since OVH has taken over? (as I understand it).
Also, do you think I could use Shadow not for gaming, but to run other software software? (Rhino3d with the Cycles renderer, Photoshop, etc). 1.5 years ago I was told that it would bottleneck at the cpu. Still the case?

2021.10.16 22:03 ArdentPurpose Fissures In The Psyche
(Author's Note: This is part one in a series)
When I use to care I was a man that was happy with the menial comforts of his everyday life. I was a model employee at my work that got along with most of my co-workers aside from the ones that either were no call no show or showed up inebriated; But that was always sparse for the most part. Work kept me preoccupied and in the down time I focused on my hobbies such as taking apart firearms and putting them together by hand, reading on CQC (Close Quarters Combat) styles, and simple creative exercises such as drawing. I was happy with my life then, it was enough to make me thankful for the repetitive schedule of the days.
Life was splendid.
Until I met the woman. It happened one day as we were closing. She came in to buy Marlboro Smooth 100s. She was wearing a long pure snow white coat that matched her blonde hair. It made her dark green eyes stand out. And I remember making her lightly blush when I made some dumb comment about her smile. She asked me what my name was and I was about to tell her before the four men came into the store.
Two of them were carrying what looked like a police issued .38 and Kimber .45. I remember recognizing their weapons instantly, force of habit. And I remember feeling my chest tighten as adrenaline surged throughout my body as I looked down the barrel of the .38.
I quickly looked at the woman in the white coat simply looking at the man pointing the Kimber at her. Her face complete stone, not even an ounce of panic in it and her arms were at her side instead of upright as the man yelled at her.
The punk with the .38 pistol whipped me of course and it hurt like a fucking son of a bitch and I felt a flush of an old and familiar dark anger rise up me as I held my jaw, glaring at him through his cracked glasses at his extremely bloodshot eyes. They were almost bulging and I could see his pupils were dilated. He pushed the barrel up against my forehead and forced me back enough so that the other two men could get at the register.
"Sir...sir please," I could only manage pleadingly.
"Shut the motherfuck up," He said, coldly, as he cocked the hammer back.
"Don't-don't hurt her,"
"Who? Who?" He spat out the questions rapidly.
I looked over at the woman in the white coat and he started to turn his head. And I quickly grabbed his arm and pushed it inward enough to have the gun aim at his head and put my hand over his on the grip. If I wasn't experienced with firearms, things would have ended much more differently. I would have said the sound was deafening, and it caused a ringing in my ears but that was the least of my worries as a gout of blood and bits of brains and skull pieces spattered onto one of the punks at the register. They all snapped to look at me as I pried the .38 from the dead punk's hand and quickly aimed it at other one with the gun swinging to point right at me. He got a shot off but so did I and it pierced right into his throat with a bright spray of arterial blood that coated the woman in the white coat. The other two rushed at me and knocked me back against the wall, the .38 almost flying from my hand, before I felt a flurry of punches against my body. I pushed off from the wall onto one of them, tackling the punk to the ground and we landed with grunts before I slammed the bottom of the magnum into his face again and again before quickly turning, just in time too, to point the magnum into belly of the other punk and pulled the trigger until I realized it was dry firing as I was still pointing it at the fallen punk. I swung right back at the punk I was straddling and hit his face again and again and one last time for good measure before I shakily got off from him and stood, breathing raggedly as I heard sirens in the distance.
I immediately dropped the empty gun and was about to head over to the woman in the white coat before stopping dead in my track as I see her running her fingers daintily along her gore streaked coat. She pulled her hand up to look at it and she opened her mouth ever so slightly, almost as if she was going to taste it: But her dark green eyes looked from them to me and she must have remembered where she was as she started to shake violently and fear overcame her face so suddenly it almost shocked me again.
Everything was a blur after that. I was detained and questioned by the police.
And then after they decided to let me go I was interviewed by the press.
The media called me a hero for stopping them, for saving not only myself but the other customers in the store. I got calls and visits from people I didn't know. They would come up to me and tell me I was brave for doing what I did. Everyone suddenly knew my name.
I suppose I should say some politically correct bullshit about not being a hero after that but truth be told, I was fucking glad it happened. Weeks after it happened crime suddenly took a dip. The people in town were lively again with this new gossip. I even had families come up to me and say that because of what I did that they had hope for the good of the town.
Things were starting to look good for our coastal little town.
When I met the woman in the white coat again it was three months after the incident and right around closing time again. She was even still wearing the white coat. I figured it must have had sentimental value seeing that there was not a ghost of a stain on it.
I smiled warmly and said," Marlboro Smooth 100s?"
"You remembered," She mused with a smile of her own.
"How could I forget a smile like that?" I teased as I went to the rack "One or two packs?"
"Just one, honey,"
I grabbed it and went to the counter, ringing it up and decided fuck it, she'll get the discount.
"Never did get your name,"
"It's Verpelis," I looked into her dark green eyes.
She smiled again.
"Harmony," She offered her hand.
"Nice to meet you," I smiled as I took her hand in mine and felt how smooth and warm it was before letting go.
Or tried to as she held onto my hand firmly. I looked back into her eyes to see something had changed in them.
"I never seen someone so sure of himself like that night. Like you really knew what you were doing," She said, her voice almost a whisper," Are you a veteran or ex cop?"
"I'm just someone that knows how to fight," I said, as a matter of fact.
She smiled as though I told her a joke before looking at the next customer coming up behind her in line.
And then she came back around the counter and wrapped her arms around my neck and kissed me. I was shocked for a brief moment before wrapping my arms tight around her waist and kissing back and almost wincing as she bit my bottom lip teasingly before letting go. She took my hand in both of hers and placed something in it before closing it.
"Don't keep me waiting," She said, as she stared intently into my eyes.
Before letting go and walking away out into the stillness of the autumn night. I uncurled my hand and looked at the paper in my hands with her number in it. I called her after I finally finished closing. We talked for hours, getting to know each other. And then one day the following week, I skipped work to go on a date with her. We ate at a restaurant then caught a film to watch, which we barely did as we made out passionately in the darkness of the back rows. We went back to my place and we made love for the first time.
I couldn't help but gaze into those lively dark green eyes as I pumped into her again and again in rhythmic motion. I couldn't help but notice how our hearts raced against each other as we held one another tight. It felt like love as she pushed me onto my back and straddled me, taking my hands in hers and holding them tight as she tossed her head back, her long white blonde hair so lustrous in the dim light of the lamp.
We melded into one person with one heart and one desire.
And when it was over, I knew nothing was ever going to be the same again.
About a month of being with her, did I finally get to meet her friends that she spoke so highly of. They came into my workplace just as I was closing.
"You're starting to make this a habit," I said, as I pulled her close and kissed her hello.
"Can't help it baby," She whispered, as she kissed back before we hugged tight.
I looked at the three people that followed her into the store over her head.
"Hello," I said, as I let go of her but for an arm around her waist.
"You must be the hero," one of the two men had said, as he looked into my eyes.
"My hero," Harmony grinned.
"I'm Verpelis," I said, as I offered one of them my hand.
"Videl," He said, his handshake firm and strong before letting go and pointing at the other man," This is Braylon and this fine young woman is Cora,"
"Nice to meet you all," I smiled affably, as I shook their hands.
"Pleasure is all ours, it's not everyday we get to meet someone that's killed bad guys," Cora said with a smile.
I didn't raise a brow at that, i've heard similar things since the incident.
"Well," I said," It's not everyday that someone decides to fuck with the wrong person at the wrong time,"
"You'd be surprised at the idiocy," Braylon said.
"True," I nodded.
"What was it like?" Videl asked.
There was no good humor in his face unlike his companions. It was all business like and I had the feeling I was being gauged as he gazed into my cobalt blue eyes.
"Like every second counted," I simply said.
He stared into my eyes for a moment before nodding.
"I can imagine. It's literally life and death and you saved not only yourself but our Harmony too,"
"Words aren't good enough but we want to say thank you anyways. Harmony says that you just took over like you knew what you were doing. It's a good thing you were working that night," Cora said as she clasped her hands together and looked solemn.
"If it was anyone else, I doubt we would have seen our girl again," Braylon said as he placed a hand on my shoulder," Thank you Verpelis,"
"You don't have to thank me-," I started.
"Ah, don't be so modest," Harmony said, as she touched my face endearingly," We won't ever forget what you did,"
We, I thought to myself; They're talking as though they're one person, I noticed. But I shrugged it off. She told me they were childhood friends and I believed it. I had no reason not to.
"I'm just glad you're here with me," I said as I hugged her again.
"Me too baby," She whispered as she hugged back tighter.
"I love you," I whispered in her ear.
"I love you even more," she whispered back before we softly kissed.
"So sweet," I heard Cora say before we let go.
"I guess we better not hold you up too long. You should be closing around ten, right?" Videl said, as he looked into my eyes.
"It was good to meet you Verpelis," He offered his hand and I shook it.
He held it firm.
"You're going to be seeing a lot more from us," He said, dead panned.
I did raise a brow at that and couldn't think of anything to say.
"You know, since you know Harmony. You're practically one of us now," He smiled affably.
"One of our brothers,' Braylon said.
"I'm sure i'll be seeing you around," I smiled in good nature.
He finally let go of my hand.
"You have a nice night now, you deserve it hero," Videl nodded at me before looking at Harmony," Coming?"
"In a moment," She said, as she took my arm in hers.
"We'll be waiting," Cora said," Have a nice night, Verpelis,"
"You guys have a nice night too," I said, before they walked out of the store.
I looked at Harmony's waiting eyes. She raised a brow.
"I like them Harmony. Honestly," I said, as I looked into her eyes.
"They didn't go overboard with the incident did they?"
"No more than what I usually get,"
"Good," She said before stepping onto her tip toes and kissing me," i'll be waiting at our place baby,"
"I should be getting done early tonight. I don't have much to do so you won't have to wait long, okay?" I said, as I cupped her cheek.
"Good. See you soon,"
I kissed her one last time before watching her go.
"Wow, aren't you popular?" I heard Halison say from behind me a moment after she left.
I turned to face him to see he had already made a mop bucket for me. I quickly checked my watch to see we were twenty minutes past closing.
"What can I say that won't make me sound like someone up their own ass?" I said as I took the bucket and placed it in the corner.
"Hope you won't forget about us when you make it big in the movies," He teased.
"I'll have my agent call you guys every now and then,"
"We still on to head to the gym tomorrow?" He asked.
I said yes and we bullshitted for a bit about this and that but not for too long as the closing manager made the rounds around the store. However there was one interesting topic.
"So did you hear that Nefran disappeared?"
He was the sole survivor of the four punks that tried to rob us.
"Been to busy to notice," I said, as I looked at him," So what exactly happened?"
"Don't know. I just know that it's being kept hush hush for who knows what reason. But from what i've heard is that he just ran out of town because he was in debt to some pretty bad people,"
It would make sense since most of the punks were OD'ed on fentanyl. They were desperate junkie degenerates, of course they would be in debt to someone worse than them. It was just a question of whether or not those people gave enough of a damn to avenge them.
"You think we should be worried?" I honestly asked him.
"I don't think so. We've never had gangster problems before. It's not likely that we'll get it now over those fucks,"
"Always a first time for everything," I mused.
"True. But if I hear anything i'll let you know immediately. I got your back brother,"
"Thanks man. After i'm finished mopping i'm going to let Coltrane know i'm heading out,"
"Big plans with the missus, huh?"
I grinned like a bastard in response and he nodded with a soft laugh.
"Don't get too tired, remember you got to rep those three plates more than just once,"
"We'll see what happens,"
After things finally came to a close, I headed back to home. I closed and locked the door behind me and hanged up my coat.
"I'm home babe!" I called out.
"In the bedroom, honey!" I heard her pleasant voice.
I was hungry but I figured it could wait as I smiled softly and headed to our room.

According to the Comprehensive rules: 700.4 The term dies means “is put into a graveyard from the battlefield.”
Yet I've noticed in Arena none of the "whenever a creature you control dies..." effects trigger when a creature is sacrificed.
Is this a bug or is there something in the ruling that I'm missing?
